The 30th edition of the National Meeting of Son Music Groups was officially inaugurated this Wednesday in the municipality of Mayarí and will run until next November 15 with a program of activities that includes face-to-face meetings and concerts to be broadcast in TV and social networks.
Taking into consideration the restrictions imposed by the new normal in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the organizing committee for the event has the will to preserve significant spaces of the so-called “Festival del Son”, such as the colloquium “Roots and tendencies of the Son music”, aimed at socializing research on the subject and promoting debates, explained Aracelis Mustelier Cutiño, municipal director of culture.
The program also includes the book and music album fair, with the presentation of the latest CD of Taínos de Mayarí and a book by local writer Zenobio Hernández Pavón, which addresses the issue of the emergence and development of the genre in the province.
Jorge Cabrera Rondón (Tito), organizer of the event, said that this year’s edition takes place with special motivations since it was recently instituted on May 8 as Son Day in Cuba, while working to obtain the title of Heritage of Humanity.
“The Festival has been maintained because we have been persevering and we always carry the idea that everything is possible when one sits down to create and seek solutions. The determination and effort of many people have made it possible to become established, “he said.
Considered the oldest among the events that defend the Son tradition in Cuba, the Festival is consolidates every year, at the same time that it floods the streets of Mayarí with an authentic rhythm that distinguishes Cuba on national and international stages.
The closing ceremony on Sunday, November 15, will include the traditional Chan Chan route of Alto Cedro Mayarí and the call for the 31st edition to be held in 2021.
