Cuban and UK entities create joint venture for medicines

BioCubaFarma Business Group and UK company SG Innovations Limited announced on Monday the creation of a new company, BioFarma Innovations, for the development and accessibility of innovative medicines in Europe.
According to a statement, the initiative seeks to provide access to a portfolio of patent-protected biopharmaceutical products, which includes the entire pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries established in Cuba.
The Cuban business group has developed a wide range of medicines, with innovative discoveries, to satisfy medical needs.
BioFarma Innovations will expand its distribution networks and increase the accessibility of these products for more people across the planet, including the fight against Covid-19, the source said.
The British company stressed that the clinical trials of several products developed by BioCubaFarma to treat the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, causing the Covid-19 disease, have shown encouraging results and prospects in many countries.
According to the text, BioFarma Innovations will be based in the United Kingdom, and David Triesman, who will be the president, has more than 40 years of experience working with the National Health Service.
