The governmental commission that investigated the causes that led to the plane crash in Havana on May 18 last year, released its final report Thursday.

Flight 972 was travelling from Havana to the city of Holguin in Eastern Cuba with 113 people on board. The Boeing 737 was leased by the Mexican company Damojh to Cuba´s flagshin carrier Cubana de Aviación. Only one person survived the tragedy, Maylen Diaz Almaguer.

Speaking to media on Thursday, the president of the Cuban Institute of Civil Aviation, Armando Daniel Lopez, made public the Commission´s conclusive report.

“According to the data obtained from flight recorders, black boxes, and the evaluation of the aeronautical standards for this flight, the Commission concluded that the most probable cause of the accident were the actions by the crew, and its errors in calculation of weight and balance that led to the loss of control of the plane and the fall shortly after take-off,”he said.

All members of the crew were Mexican.

Lopes, who was also the chair of the governmental commission, acknowledged the cooperation received during the investigation from citizens, institutions involved in the probe, as well as the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), Boeing company as well of the Aeronautics authorities from Mexico. / RHC
