Cuba's representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Roberto Cabañas, denounced that the United States has launched an unprecedented escalation of aggression against the island, aimed at punishing its entire population, in a blatant attack on its human rights.
Speaking at the organizational meeting for the 61st session of the Human Rights Council, the diplomat noted that Washington's actions have gone so far as to threaten trade tariffs on countries that supply oil to Cuba, in an attempt to make the international community complicit in a criminal energy blockade, the Foreign Ministry website highlighted.
"The objective of this draconian unilateral coercive measure is to paralyze the country's economic and social activity and cause suffering to millions of Cubans.
The Human Rights Council cannot remain silent in the face of these criminal acts," Cabañas stated.

In his remarks, the Cuban representative warned of the complex international context in which the new session of the Council will take place, where the multilateral system and its institutions are under direct attack.
He criticized the United States for attempting to impose a new international order after withdrawing from this and other bodies, replacing "the rule of law with the rule of law."
As an example of this conduct, he strongly condemned "the brutal military aggression against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the kidnapping of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores," describing them as further evidence of the US government's intentions to push the world into anarchy.
In this context, the Cuban delegation announced that it will present three draft resolutions during the session.
The first will focus on renewing the mandate on "The consequences of external debt and other related international financial obligations of States on the full enjoyment of all human rights," to highlight their impact on the realization of rights, including development.
The second project will focus on the "Right to Food," aiming to contribute to addressing food insecurity, hunger, and extreme poverty, as well as supporting developing countries' efforts in food production and the promotion of sustainable food systems.
The third initiative, entitled "Promoting the Enjoyment of Cultural Rights for All and Respect for Cultural Diversity," will seek to highlight the importance of respecting national and regional particularities, as well as historical, cultural, and religious diversity within and among States. Cabañas reiterated that Cuba is ready to work constructively, transparently, and inclusively with all delegations and civil society organizations on these proposals, and expressed his gratitude in advance for their support.
