India sends aid to Cuba & Jamaica for recovery from Hurricane Melissa

The shipment, totaling 20 tons for each country, departed from New Delhi on Tuesday and includes essential items for rehabilitation, food, medicine, medical equipment, generators, hygiene kits, and other supplies, according to a statement published by the Foreign Ministry.

The Indian Foreign Minister emphasized that the South Asian nation stands in solidarity with its partners in the Global South in the face of natural disasters and will provide assistance in their recovery and reconstruction efforts.

Over the years, India has consistently supported Cuba with humanitarian aid following hurricanes and earthquakes.

The aid for Cuba will arrive in the days leading up to the visit of Pabitra Margherita, India’s Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, as part of a tour that also includes Bolivia and Ecuador.

In Cuba, Margherita will discuss strengthening bilateral relations, including in the areas of health and medicine, digital public infrastructure, and capacity building. (Source : PL)
