Cuba denounces omission of important issues at Summit of the Americas

The 9th Summit of the Americas, whose preparations are currently making progress in the United States, will be held without addressing or responding to very important issues of the region, a source from the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
According to Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernandez de Cossio, the meeting scheduled for June will not discuss issues such as racism, women’s rights and marginalization.
The government representative said that the discussion on inequality in access to healthcare services or the impact of coercive measures on nations will not be on the agenda.
According to the deputy foreign minister, Washington’s official position is that no one has been invited yet to the meeting scheduled in Los Angeles, but the intention is to exclude Cuba from the summit.
The possible omission of Cuba, along with that of Venezuela and Nicaragua, generated unrest and caused that several governments of the region announce their absence at the meeting if the hosts insist on that claim.
I hope that President Joe Biden corrects and invites everyone to the Summit of the Americas, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador recently said.
“If a country does not have the capacity to ensure the participation of everyone, it should not assume the commitment to hold a summit in its territory,” Fernandez de Cossio emphasized at the Mesa Redonda (Round Table) radio and TV program.
According to him, the United States maintains a policy of hostility towards Cuba, aimed at changing the economic-social order, isolating the Caribbean nation in the international arena and promoting a constant campaign to discredit it.
