The vice president of the Government of the Russian Federation, Yuri Ivanovich Borisov, will arrive in Havana on Thursday to pay a working visit, the Cuban Foreign Ministry reported.
A press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that the top Russian official will meet with Cuban authorities to review the progress of bilateral collaboration in various spheres between Cuba and the Russian Federation.
The Russian delegation will include representatives of ministries and departments in charge of several areas of commercial, economic, scientific and technical cooperation.
Borisov is co-chairman of the Cuba-Russia Intergovernmental Commission, and last November, during the 18th Session of that cooperation mechanism, he pointed out that boosting our ties in different areas is necessary, as Cuba will be able to count on Russia’s support.
At that meeting, the two parties evaluated the impact of the damage caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the effect of the sanctions imposed on the two countries and the consequences of climate change.
On January 24, the presidents of Cuba and Russia, Miguel Diaz-Canel and Vladimir Putin, respectively, held a telephone conversation during which they reviewed the excellent state of relations between the two countries and discussed the future development of bilateral cooperation in different spheres. Cuba is one of Russia’s prioritized foreign economic partners in Latin America and the Caribbean. /PL
