Hydraulic works progress in vulnerable neighborhoods in Holguín

The province of Holguín is making progress on hydraulic works to benefit vulnerable neighborhoods, amidst the fuel crisis that the country is going through.
The territorial delegate of Hydraulic Resources Juan Mario Echavarría Hernández, stated on his social media that the priorities are focused on improving access to basic services, even with limited resources.
He said that municipalities such as Gibara, Rafael Freyre, Cueto, and Mayarí are being prioritized. The latter two are located within the Turquino Plan, one of the social programs established after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution on January 1, 1959.
The main actions include the installation of new sections of water mains, the drilling of wells, and the elimination of flood-prone areas—key indicators for the sector.
In the province, science and innovation projects are also underway, focused on the recovery of hydraulic pumps, one of the most in-demand pieces of equipment, the acquisition of which is limited by the tightening of the United States' economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba.
Despite the complex economic scenario, the Cueto Water Treatment Plant and the Caletones Desalination Plant are also progressing. These projects will have a significant social impact by improving water quality in the communities where they are located.
Holguín, one of Cuba's most populated provinces, is advancing in feasibility studies aimed at connecting new customers to the water and sewage systems, reducing water truck deliveries, eliminating leaks, and improving service cycles and quality.
