The 67th anniversary of the Triumph of the Revolution brought together Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz at the Plaza 2 de Diciembre, where the municipality of Cacocum was recognized for its progress after Hurricane Melissa.

During the festivities, several community projects were repaired and maintained, including the Expedicionarios del Corynthia semi-boarding school, the Rubén Batista Rubio polyclinic, the Miguel González Intensive Garden, and the headquarters of the Municipal Government. These works reflect coordinated efforts to strengthen local infrastructure.

Among the week's news features the progress in providing medical care to vulnerable and hard-to-reach communities, support for athletes, and the promotion of educational projects, reflecting a broad effort to strengthen local development, also highlit the.

Lisbeth Leyva Fontón, municipal health director, explained that since the area is mostly rural, a comprehensive strategy was applied to guarantee a free and accessible healthcare system, prioritizing pregnant women living in remote areas.

In the field of education, efforts focused on supporting childhood development and reinforcing political-ideological and preventive work, through spaces designed to develop values and monitor each student’s personal and family situation.

Cacocum recorded notable sporting progress, with 28 athletes enrolled in the Pedro Díaz Coello Sports Initiation School (EIDE), two in national high-performance centers, and one competing in the main category as part of the Holguín “Cachorros” team in the 64th National Baseball Series.

In science and technology, important themes included environmental investments, recovery of mining-affected areas, and the implementation of agroecological practices, and innovation at the Lázaro Peña Cigar Company, recognized for contributing to the circular economy, including the creation of a pneumatic paper press built with local resources. This innovation showcases local ingenuity and the effective reuse of materials to improve production processes.

As for the expansion in fishing and transport logistics, the news also features the Alcides Pino (Astinor) Base Business Unit in Gibara, which contributed to Cuba´s platform fishing industry by constructing 12 vessels using fiberglass-reinforced plastic, a modern and energy-saving technology ensuring vessel durability.
