The Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment in the province of Holguín promotes the use of renewable energy sources through scientific projects to support the feasibility of these practices for sustainable development.
The province has a program dedicated to this topic, which involves universities, specialists and self-employed workers, said Geovanny Zaldívar Martínez, deputy delegate for the sector.
He commented that thanks to international collaboration, solar irrigation systems and equipment aimed at improving productivity and soil conditions have been donated.
These alternatives also contribute to Tarea Vida, the Cuban government's plan to address climate change, which includes resilient and sustainable production among its areas of action, Zaldívar added.
The programs cover the municipality of Gibara and difficult to access areas of the Turquino Plan, where several homes have been provided electricity service with solar panels, improving the quality of life of their residents.
Holguín has more than 200 strategies under development that cover topics such as a science-based government system, food sovereignty, the application of agroecological techniques, and natural heritage management.
In the eastern region, priority is given to training and the search for collaborative agreements focused on obtaining batteries and spare parts to ensure the optimal functioning of devices such as solar panels. (Source: ACN)
