The Heroes del 26 de Julio Mechanical Company in the province of Holguín develops different projects that from science, innovation and productive chains, allow Cuba to produce a range of equipment to substitute imports.

According to Fernando Echavarría Caballero, a technical assistance specialist at the Company, a medium roaster for the Coffee Roasting Machine is one of the equipment produced here that contribute to the substitution of imports.

He refers that the equipment and technology of the industry allow the development of spare parts for nickel companies, equipment for medical assistance such as stretchers and parabans, although the main production is for agricultural machinery.

In this sense, the industry has developed models of tractors, plows and rice harvesters, in cooperation with companies such as CEDEMA, the KTP factory and foreign companies, among which stands out the TPA 3 500 model, certified by the Institute of Agricultural Research.

Also, the TPA 7,000 model that is undergoing the certification process. Both prototypes are developed for the rice harvest in Cuba, which is carried out in humid fields and allow the productivity of the rice harvester to be increased by 30 percent, constituting a solution from science to improve productivity and substitute imports.

Echavarría explanied that these are intermediate machines, since their function is to transport the rice collected by the harvester to the trailers, which saves fuel and time, increases the productivity and prevents trailer jams in wet fields.

Youth and innovation

The factory is involved in the development of new projects that allow it to expand its product portfolio in addition to equipment or parts to substitute imports.

Mauro Santiesteban Serrano is one of the young developers of new projects, among which it stands out the five-disc plow (AFT-5), produced here thanks to the productive chain with the Villa Clara Mechanical Plant in charge of producing the so-called hookahs and disk holder in the absence of cast steel semi-finished products.

Another innovation by Mauro is the turnaround for karatas, a device that allows these means of transport to orient themselves towards the front, where there are no railway triangles to turn, and thus avoid driving backwards to prevent any accident. (Source: Radio Angulo)
