During this historic day for the nation, on a date that marks the beginning of the struggles for the independence of the Cuban people, the legislators will elect in the Convention Palace of Havana the fundamental positions of the State:
- President, Vice-president and Secretary of the ANPP and the Council of State
- Other members of the Council of State
- President and Vice-president of the Republic
After 43 years, Cuba reinstates the position of President of the Republic as Head of State, elected by the Assembly and accompanied by a Vice-president, with a strong centrality within the structure of State Power.
He shall be elected from among the members of the National Assembly and shall report to the National Assembly, the highest organ of power in the Cuban State.
In addition, he was previously elected by direct popular vote in one of the municipalities of the national territory.
This Thursday, the ANPP and the Council of State, a permanent collegiate body of the ANPP, will have a single presidency, as mandated by the new Constitution approved in April.
