Pope Francis spent a quiet night at the Gemelli Polyclinic, where he is still under medical treatment to deal with the bilateral pneumonia he is suffering from, while recent analyses show a slight recovery.
A note published on the Vatican News website, on the basis of updated information provided by the Holy See press office, states that the Supreme Pontiff remains in a stationary clinical condition, after the latest tests indicate ‘a slight improvement, particularly in the inflammatory indexes’.
The night went quietly, the Pope got up and had breakfast in an armchair,’ says the report issued this morning by the Vatican office that handles the media.
The Holy Father ‘continues his treatment and also his activities at work, compatible with his illness and his stay in the hospital,’ such as reading, signing documents, talking on the phone and speaking with close assistants, Vatican News underlines in its Thursday article.
In fact, last Wednesday afternoon the Bishop of Rome received a visit from the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, who spent 20 minutes with him in private.
A statement released by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers said that Meloni told Francis, on behalf of the Italian government and the country, that she wished him a speedy recovery.
‘I am very happy to have found him alert and receptive,’ the Minister told the media, referring to her meeting with the Pontiff, with whom ‘we joked as always’ because, she said, ‘he has not lost his proverbial sense of humor.’ (Prensa Latina)
