The Citizenship Bill to be presented in the third ordinary session of the National Assembly of the People's Power (ANPP) in its X Legislature, was analyzed this Wednesday through videoconference with the presence of Deputies from Holguín province and the entire country.

The exchange took place with the presence of Ana María Mari Machado, vice president of the ANPP and the Council of State; Homero Acosta Álvarez, secretary of the body and also José Luis Toledo Santander, president of the ANPP Constitutional and Legal Affairs Commission.

In the exchange, participants evaluated the particularities regarding the regulations that establish the requirements for the acquisition of Cuban citizenship by birth and naturalization, formalities and authorities empowered to grant it.
In the case of the loss of citizenship, terms were clarified on the causes that may determine it, the formalities and the authority empowered to make this decision.

It was also analyzed how the right to recover Cuban citizenship can be exercised once, regardless of the cause of the loss. Likewise, it was explained how the documents that prove the status of Cuban citizen, by birth or naturalization, are regulated, as well as the authorities empowered to issue them.

"In the exchanges held and the presentations made to the Legislative Capacity Groups, the topics that sparked the greatest debate were those related to effective citizenship, causes of deprivation of citizenship, powers, functions and faculties in charge of the Minister of the Interior and the Citizenship Registry," commented José Luis Toledo Santander, president of the ANPP Constitutional and Legal Affairs Commission.

Made up of 114 articles, 17 chapters and 8 titles, the project aims to regulate and develop the constitutional postulates on Cuban citizenship. This legal document also complements the principle of effective citizenship and specifies that the acquisition of another citizenship does not imply the loss of Cuban citizenship.
