Holguín University among those with the most accredited specialties

With the medical specialties of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation, Intensive and Emergency Medicine and Neonatology evaluated with the category of Excellence, the University of Medical Sciences of Holguín (UCMHo) is among the institutions with the best results in the quality management process for the training of professionals in the Public Health sector in the country.


With these other specialties supervised by the National Accreditation Board (JAN), the University has 23 specialties evaluated, including 21 with the category of Excellence and two Certified, leaving only seven pending to take that exam with the possibility of being accredited in the next five-year period.

Of the total, the evaluation processes of 2023 corresponded to Rheumatology, Gastroenterology, Pathological Anatomy, Geriatrics and Gerontology; Endocrinology and Clinical Laboratory, Anesthesiology and Resuscitation; Intensive and Emergency Medicine and Neonatology that achieved Excellence.

Dr.C. Elizabeth Leyva Sánchez, quality coordinator at UCMHo, explained that in the previous year, the Medicine degrees and the master's degree in Medical Education were valued, both certified as reaccreditation.

In 2024, the specialties of Cardiology and Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology, the Community Mental Health master's program and the reaccreditation of the Stomatology degree and institutional reevaluation are planned to go through this process.

Regarding the general results achieved, Dr. Galina Galcerán Chacón, rector of the UCMHo, said that these are very rigorous evaluations that have demonstrated the preparation and potential of the professionals in the sector.
