Havana Will Host Int’l Congress on Higher Education PDF Print E-mail

Nearly 3,000 delegates from over 60 countries will participate in the 7th International Congress on Higher Education ‘University 2010’ that begins on Monday at Havana’s Convention Center.

Rodolfo Alarcon Ortiz, First Deputy Minister of Higher Education in Cuba, said during a press conference that participants will analyze the role of universities as development agents, mainly in Latin America.

The official recalled that this year Cuba implemented measures to improve the educational system including an emphasis on subjects such as History and Civic Education, and the generalization of university entrance examination.

For her part, Deputy Higher Education Minister Aurora Fernandez referred to the scientific program of the event that includes more than 2,000 papers to be analyzed in 13 workshops and also in round tables, lectures and discussion panels.

Meanwhile, Roberto Santin, also Deputy Minister of Higher Education, highlighted the record presence in the meeting of 20 ministers of the sector as well as a significant number of foreign personalities.

The largest foreign delegation will be that of Venezuela with 309 delegates, followed by Argentina, Spain, Mexico, Brazil, China, Russia and Italy, among other countries.

‘University 2010’ will run through next Friday, February 12th, and a series of collateral meetings will also be taking place such as the 5th Meeting on Higher Education Financing. / ACN
