He spoke of the successful efforts made by healthcare institutions during winter months to prevent a possible increase of the number of patients with acute respiratory infections and the spread of 23 common viruses.
For this reason, he said, the country has strengthen the monitoring of pregnant women, puerperal mothers, children under one year old, people with disabilities, asthma and other high risk groups.
Estruch said that emergency services had been reorganized in hospitals and health centres in order to assist patients faster.
”The public health system is ready and all the necessary resources are available, but we need to prevent the spread of the flu as much as possible by taking all the required measures in schools, workplaces and at home,” he said.
He also mentioned that in 2009, more than half a million Cubans had been vaccinated against seasonal flu and acknowledged the excellent work carried out by health professionals in the country. / AIN
