In Holguin: Lalita Curbelo’s 80th Anniversary

Cultural Center Casa Lalita Curbelo Barberán, site that treasures objects that belonged to who was also a cultural promoter and clandestine combatant, begins two days of tribute for the 80th birthday of Holguin poetess.

With the Awards of the Contest "New Voices of Poetry" and the conclusion of the gathering "El duende y sus amigos” (The goblin and friends), the Casa will start activities on the 11th with a poetry reading involving Kenia Leyva, Belkis Mendez, Manuel Garcia Verdecia and Delfin Prats.

That day, the presentation of Iconographic Album "Navegar por tantos cauces" a collaboration between the Cultural Center, Ediciones Holguín and Affirmation Hispanist Front. The day will end with a serenade of the troubadour Liliam Gonzalez on the eve of the honored poetess’s birthday.

By the 12th the presentation of Curbelo’s book "In the sands of time," is expected. It is published by Ediciones Holguín and has a selection and editing by poets Luis Caisses and Lourdes Gonzalez. The panel "Our Lalita", will take place and will have the participation of Carmen Mora de la Cruz (cultural promoter), Jose Novoa (Historian), Carolina Gutierrez Marroquín (researchers and students of Lalita), Celia Portella (Master), Mirella Carded Curbelo (niece).

The closure of the activities will take place in the Patio of La Periquera, at 8:30 pm. What is alreadyt known as the "80th Birthday Gala" will feature performances of Wind Quintet Improntus, the Duo Sabares, guitarist Eliecer Travieso and several soloists from the Lyric.
