The Banana and the Plantain Returning to Banes PDF Print E-mail
By Redaction AHORA / redaccion@ahora.cu / Thursday, 05 November 2009 10:43

The more than 6000 quintals of banana cropped in banes shows that this municipality has started a very positive steps in the recovery of this vegetable so highly demanded and with a long and rich history in this land since the end of the 18th century, times of much splendor when it was marketed for the US market.

The plantations completely destroyed by hurricane Ike (September 2008) already began to grow thanks to the work and devotion of the local campesinos and the state agriculture workers who stick to hard work as the best way to supply the local market with plantains and bananas.

Today one can see a different and promising panorama in places like Mulas and Sama, the jurisdiction’s main croppers, whose commitment is surpassing the year’s plans and work harder to increase them much more the coming 2010.

Finally, the quality of the product is another fact to be praised, what reaffirms the work done in the recovery of the banana and plain fields in the municipality of Banes.
