Cuba Continues the Struggle to Free the Cuban Five

The Cuban Five antiterrorists arrested in Miami on September 12, 1998, were the victims of an injustice. The five Cubans had not caused harm to anyone. Their only crime was trying to fight terrorism there, in that terrorist’s haven of Miami. From the very beginning, the trial against them was plagued with violations of the law.

The case has been ignored by the main media, which tries to monopolize information worldwide. But the so called local Miami media, spokespeople for the terrorists, who dominate the city and its radio, television and print, has taken up the subject.

In a "globalized" world, millions of Americans are not allowed to know that their government is protecting terrorism in its own territory and fiercely punishes those who fight against it.

The five antiterrorists have spent eleven years of confinement in US prisons and Cuba is staying alert faced with the re-sentencing of three of the five, but come what may, will not give up until all five are free.

On October13, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labanino and Fernando Gonzalez will attend a district court hearing, where the same Judge Joan Lenard from the previous rigged trial, will hand down new sentences.

Faced with the violation of the law in this case, one of the greatest tasks of the international solidarity movement with the Cuban Five, is to spread the case to the American people and break the media censorship and misrepresentation. As Jose Marti wrote: “A just principle from the depths of a cave can do more than an army.”
