Governor of northern Angolan province, Bengo, Jorge Inocencio Dombolo considered fruitful Cuban medical cooperation in that territory as an example of friendly relations between the governments of Cuba and Angola.

The official who is also a member of the Politburo of the Popular Movement for Angolan Liberation (MPLA) told Prensa Latina that the work of 28 Cuban specialists in hospital are highly valued since they contribute to save many lives.

Aid includes medical areas such as orthopedics and obstetrics since the region lacks specialized Angolan staff, he pointed out.

He also pointed to Cuban health professionals working in Bengo through a program of the Cuban Biological Pharmaceutical Laboratories, the intense work to combat malaria by combating the mosquito that transmits the disease and that is the first cause of death.

For his part, deputy of the National Assembly, Ad uo Campos Congo expressed to this agency that Cuba health personnel participate in the campaigns of cleaning areas to prevent malaria, typhus and tuberculosis, among other diseases.

The medical team is hard working, human and work in difficult conditions and for this reason has won the respect and affection of Angolans, Bengo Agostinho Dionisio Faix, secretary of MPLA political affairs, told Prensa Latina.

According to figures of the medical brigade in that province, it attended 110,000 patients in different specialties as well as 15,000 surgeries.

Within this context Cuban ambassador to Angola, Pedro Ross Leal, announced that the literacy method I Can will be applied in Bengo a territory of more than half a million inhabitants and about 55 kilometers north of Luanda.

This literacy method now covers provinces of Luanda, Huambo, Benguela, Bie and Cuanza Sur. / PL
