Honduran military and antiriot police charged this Thursday against a peaceful demonstration opposing the coup in this Centro American nation in the Pan American Highway that links Tegucigalpa, the capital, with the northern part of the country.
According to witnesses’ statements to Radio Globo, the attack started around 10.20 a.m. local time, close to El Durazno town, some five kilometers from the Honduran capital, reported Prensa Latina news agency.

The military and the antiriot forces beat the demonstrators and even some reporters covering the events, saying that they would not allow further filming of their repressive actions, denounced a woman.

The Radio Globo reporter confirmed this version before having to leave the place, due to tear gas thrown by the police and army forces.

The journalist explained that the demonstrators withdrew downhill, towards Tegucigalpa, as they are chased by the repressive forces that beat every civilian they capture.

The woman that was interviewed demanded entrepreneur Roberto Micheletti, president of the de facto regime, to stop repressing the population that demonstrates pacifically.

“Micheletti out!” cried out the woman before getting away from the area.

The Frente Nacional contra el golpe de Estado (Nacional Front against the Coup) started today a 48-hour general strike demanding the reinstatement of the rule of law, broken by the coup last June 28th when President Manuel Zelaya was seized and expelled from the country. / RHC
