Cesar Sarmiento, director for the Rational Use of Energy in Holguin, said that the province ranks among the top in the country by achieving an energy saving above 18.6 gigawatts / hour.
Sarmiento added that in the past six months they had reduced consumption, in the eastern territory, by 5,426 tonnes of oil, which represents a considerable contribution to the economy.
”These achievements were possible due to the compliance with the measures implemented in the territory to avoid the waste of electricity, which is still being observed in State institutions and the residential sector”, he stressed.
He explained that during this stage inspections of state and residential entities were increased, mainly in the "peak hour" (6:00 to 10:00 pm), while a reduction of street lighting was planned, without affecting road and pedestrian safety.
The Cuban government has adopted a package of initiatives contained within the Energy Revolution, which includes the changing of meters, breakers in homes and replacement of poles and miles of transmission lines, and distribution by higher quality conductors.
