Holguín athletes on the podium, new book on sports in the province

The performance of the Olympic and world medalists trained in Holguín was reflected in the new literary work "Holguineros en el podio", by journalist and historian Calixto José González Betancourt, presented last Sunday at the Alex Urquiola provincial library.
The book was presented by González Betancourt, journalist of the local newspaper ¡ahora!, as part of the activities carried out during the XXXI Book Fair recently concluded in this city.
The text, published by La Mezquita publishing house, collects in the first part the performance of the five Holguín athletes who hold the status of Olympic and world champions; in its second chapter, it comprises report on the monarchs under the five rings and in the third are the Olympic runners-up from this northeastern province.
The fourth section includes the trajectory of the athletes who have a bronze medal at most in summer events; in the fifth are reflected those who have world titles and in the sixth a representation of youth starters in World Championships and World Cups.
The closing chapter summarizes the performance of two figures who were not medalists with their teams, but during their active period they were among the best in the world. It also includes other stars of the sport in Holguín since the triumph of the Cuban Revolution.
At the moment the book does not have printed copies for sale, however, the also author of " Fermín Laffita, rey de la pradera central " and "Campeones Holguineros", maintains the hope of realizing the objective of printing on paper the history of sport in Holguín.
