Rwandan Parliament Authorizes Phone Tapping

The National Assembly of Rwanda passed a law authorizing the interception of phone calls and e-mail messages in order to ensure the security of that State, official sources reported today.

The Minister of Home Security, Sheikh Musa Fazil Harelimana, said the new legislation, unanimously passed by Parliament, can capture sensitive information by systems that detect keywords.

He said the measure was taken to know about the activities of criminal groups that operate on large scale in the country.

Rwanda, a country in central Africa, lived in the 1990s, last century, an intense internal conflict that killed more than half a million people, mostly from the Tutsi ethnic group, according to humanitarian agencies./ PrensaLatina
