Organizing Committee for World Festival of the Youth and Students Announced

Photo: Elder LeyvaThe Holguin´s preparatory organizing committee for the 19th World Youth Festival and students was officially constituted in a ceremony held in the Plaza Mayor General Calixto García Íñiguez, in this eastern Cuban city.

In the meeting, Nayla Leyva Rodríguez, the first secretary of the Young Communist League in the province, spoke on the work to be carried out by the Committee and announced the student organizations, youth movements, agencies and institutions that conform it.

"From the basis, the festival should promote a cultural, historical, recreational, productive and educational movement at all levels that allows being in tune with the motto that distinguishes this edition: For peace, solidarity and social justice and the struggle against Yankee imperialism, " she said.

There are several reasons for the great event, which will especially be dedicated to Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, and the anniversaries 70 and 50 of the first festival in the former Soviet Union and the fall in combat of the Heroic Guerrilla fighter Ernesto Che Guevara, respectively.

Leyva Rodríguez gave an overview of the progress of the festival process in the territory, which has its main role in the brigades and groups of students, as well as in the community.

The provincial event will be held on June 12 and 13, when the Holguin delegation will be elected to participate in Sochi, Russia, with three direct delegates, one already selected in the local newspaper ¡ahora!, and others coming from from the nickel company Ernesto Che Guevara, from the municipality of Moa and Hotel Las Brisas, from Guardalavaca, Banes.

More than 15,000 young people will attend the event, who will talk about peace, war and imperialism, education, science and culture, employment, economy and development, democracy and human rights, communication and technology.
