Iran showed today its willingness to strengthen its relations with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), after agreeing to inspections of sites that, due to unreliable information, were considered suspicious of illegal nuclear operations.

However, the Iranian representative to the IAEA, Kazem Qaribabadi, said that the Islamic Republic will adapt its conduct to the behavior of the international entity.

The UN agency should dissociate itself from conspiracies against Iran's peaceful nuclear program and from those who doubt the validity of inspections by the world body that certified Tehran's adherence to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, he said.

Iran is ready to continue and strengthen its cooperation (with the IAEA) if it sees that the action is in good faith and in accordance with the regulations, Qaribabadi said in statements cited here today.

'Mutual confidence is a prerequisite for cooperation,' he said.

The Iranian diplomat commented the visit of the IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi to the Persian nation, and his meetings with authorities who described them as constructive.

Iran ratified good will in its interaction with Grossi, who took office last December and was in the Persian country for the first time.

On this occasion, Qaribabadi rejected claims that the presence of the agency's director in the Islamic Republic was due to suggestions by the United States that it is trying to reactivate a mechanism to re-impose global sanctions on Teheran. / PL
