The Russian vaccine to protect against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, causing the Covid-19 pandemic, will be applied for people aged between 18 and 60 years, Alexander Ginstburg, director of the N. F. Gamaleya National Research Center, said on Wednesday.
After referring to the official announcement of the new vaccine, whose registration as the first one of its kind globally was announced on Tuesday, Ginstburg pointed out that a first phase of vaccination will take place before it is used for the elderly and children.
Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko announced that the first batch of the vaccine will come out in two weeks and said he will be among the first persons who will inject that preparation as soon as it is ready.
During a press briefing at the N.F. Gamalei Center, Murashko stated that 20% of the country's medical personnel, prioritized for vaccination, have already acquired immunity against Covid-19.
Regarding the critics against the vaccine heard from abroad, the doctor said that our colleagues felt the Russian competitive advantage and therefore they try to present unfounded arguments against it. This vaccine has passed all the necessary tests and certifications, he said.
Murashko also recommended that obese people, patients with heart and respiratory diseases and diabetes must be vaccinated, although the anti-Covid 19 vaccine will be voluntarily administrated.
