A mission from the World Health Organization (WHO) began its inquiries in China on the origin of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus with the premise of delving into any detail, since it considers that it would provide useful information.

The investigations are focused on the city of Wuhan, its Institute of Virology, the laboratory of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, some hospitals and the Huanan seafood market, the latter linked to the outbreak.

In the opinion of Peter Ben Embarek, team leader, although the market is closed 'there is much to see there and take as an experience.'

'We hope to understand how it operated, to see the places associated with the cases, to reconstruct the initial one, to look for files on the animals and products for sale. And, if possible, to speak with some of the workers,' Embarek said.

The experts will also review the results of recent studies conducted in Wuhan, raise hypotheses about the evolution of the coronavirus and on that basis they will continue the investigations.

The head of the team added that the work will be more productive as of today because they will be able to have in-person meetings with their Chinese counterparts and they expect there will be no restrictions on probing sites of scientific interest.
The team concluded 14 days of quarantine on Thursday and their studies should extend for four weeks.

This is the third visit to China by a WHO delegation related to SARS-CoV-2, and this time it is made up of scientists from the Netherlands, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Australia, Russia, Vietnam, Germany, the United States, Qatar and Japan.
