The British government hopes to discuss Cuba's situation with the new U.S. government and share ideas on the positive development of relations between the United Kingdom and the Caribbean nation.
According to Prensa Latina in contact with the Cuba Solidarity Campaign, the announcement was made by Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Wendy Morton, responding to a question from Labour legislator Graham Morris in the House of Commons on the subject.
Morris, who heads the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Cuba, asked whether U.K. Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab would urge President Joe Biden's administration to normalize relations with the Caribbean archipelago.
We regularly address many mutual interest issues, including Cuba, with our U.S. counterpart, and we hope to continue to do so with the new administration, Morton said.
The official also recalled that London has repeatedly made clear its opposition to Washington's unilateral blockade against Havana, considering it counterproductive.
The United Kingdom believes that the blockade's extraterritorial effects, particularly those deriving from the activation of Titles III and IV of the Helms-Burton Act, are illegal under international law, Morton stressed.
