A group of former US diplomatic and national security officials urged President Joe Biden on Tuesday to make changes in the Government's policy on Cuba before his Republican successor, Donald Trump, takes office.
In a letter to Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, they called on the administration “to loosen some restrictions on Cuba before handing over the reins of US diplomacy to President-elect Trump.”
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Wednesday that he does not anticipate any change of policy towards Cuba before Joe Biden leaves power on January 20, 2025.
"Why do some people have to walk barefoot for others to travel in luxurious automobiles? Why do some people have to live 35 years for others to live 70? Why do some people have to be miserably poor for others to be exaggeratedly rich? I speak in the name of the children in the world who do not have a piece of bread; I speak in the name of the sick who do not have medicine; I speak in the name of those who have been denied the right to life and human dignity."
