The municipality of Gibara, some 30 km from the city of Holguin, has achieved favorable results in health indicators, as part of the program to improve this sector in Cuba.
Holguín is among the nine Cuban provinces in which the presence of the Oropouche virus has been confirmed, which leads to increasing the epidemiological surveillance system and measures against its transmitting agent, the mosquitoes of the genus Culex and diptera of the genus culicidae (Jejen culicoide).
The Ministry of Public Health of Cuba confirmed the presence of the Oropouche virus in 9 provinces and 23 municipalities, based on samples studied in the national reference laboratory of the Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine.
