The Meeting of the Economy held on Monday at the headquarters of the provincial government in Holguín showed the need to fully exploit the potential of the territory to provide more goods and services to the population, after an analysis of the main economic indicators of the province at the end of August.
Increasing physical productions, mainly in industry and agriculture, as well as extending the projections to achieve food sovereignty in each of the Holguín municipalities, were central axes of the meeting that was attended by Ernesto Santisteban Velázquez, president of the Provincial Defense Council (CDP).
Last August, 42 items were captured with an impact of 689.9 million pesos, although the production of charcoal, bamboo furniture and honey, among others, continues to lag behind. Of 375 physical productions, it decreased by 131, which represents 34.9 percent.
Although the commercial circulation reached 1,428 million sales, 63 million were stopped selling, compared to the same stage of the previous year. Inventories amount to 993.5 million pesos, a large part of them are productions in process, raw materials and merchandise for sale.
As for fiscal policy, 2 thousand 387 million are collected, 67 million below the plan due to the fall in commercial circulation.
Julio Cesar Estupiñán Rodríguez, vice president of the CDP, insisted on the need for the municipalities that have yet to present projects aimed to increase agricultural production to work on it, because it is the best way to use the donations made by natural and legal persons, which already reaches one million pesos in MN and more than 2,500 in CUC.
This time, the state budget closed in deficit because it had more expenses than income. It was also known that the province exceeds, to date, the 32 million pesos of expenses due to Covid-19 and 22.3 million in the anti-vectorial campaign.
During 2020, the Holguín food industry has been affected by the lack of pork and cattle meat, which are the basis for various elaborations. In August, only 9.5 pounds of agricultural products were obtained per capita in general in the province.
In this sense, Santiesteban Velázquez demanded a critical analysis in those companies whose mission is to collect these productions and distribute them in a commercial network.
He also said that before September 30, the Agriculture sector has to present the actions to be carried out to transform the situation, to comply with the coal export plan, to complete the four rustic farming houses, as well as the strategy to ensure meat production by the end of the year.
During the meeting, held virtually, each municipality in the province reported the measures and actions to be taken to reverse negative situations and improve the results of the economic indicators that allow them to end the year in the best possible situation.
