New School Year Opens in Holguin with an Enrollment of more than 160 000 Students

The 2019-2020 school year officially opened this September 2 in Holguin with ceremony held at the Juan Jose Fornet Piña Educational Complex of this eastern Cuban city.
 
Ivan Hernandez Ochoa, director of the teaching center, welcomed more than 1, 067 thousand students and 115 workers, and stated that the quality of learning, teacher training, comprehensive training of students and the work with the family are priorities for the new school period.

The event served to praise the work carried out by the people involved in the repair and maintenance works of the Educational Complex, as well as in the assurance of the necessary resources for the beginning of the new school year.

Luis Felipe Batista Rodriguez, provincial director of Education, said that the new the school year started in Holguin with an enrollment of more than 160,000 and 39,000 education workers.

"We face the school year with greater success, with teacher coverage of 98.3% without alternatives, and the incorporation of 823 teachers," he said.

He also explained that there are 365 schools connected to the Internet in Holguin, 53 of them are located in areas of difficult access and have 3G technology.

"An extraordinary effort has been made in the province to recover 75 institutions evaluated between regular and bad. Today, 82 percent of our schools are evaluated as good."

Batista Rodríguez officially opened the new school year in the province, and quoted Fidel Castro, who said that "The future of the country depends fundamentally on education."

The event was chaired by Ernesto Santiesteban Velazquez, First Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba in Holguin and Julio Cesar Estupiñan, President of the Provincial Assembly of People’s Power in eastern Cuban territory.
