Cuban Minister Checks Preparations for 2019-2020 School Year

Ena Elsa Velazquez Cobiella, Cuban Minister of Education, checked in the province of Holguin the preparations for the 2019-2020 school year to begin on Monday, September 2nd.
In meeting with teachers and educational workers of the territory, Velazquez Cobiella commented on the progress made in the educational centers of the province, recognized as the largest school district in the country, with 1,289 institutions.
The minister stressed the need to give priority to schools in the area that had been declared in critical condition by the Ministry of Public Health, as well as those centers that will not open in September because they are still undergoing maintenance and repair works.
She affirmed that despite the economic situations faced in the country, the school materials are guaranteed for the first semester of the school period, whose enrollment in the territory amounts to 161, 714 students.
Velazquez Cobiella was informed about the teacher coverage, at 96.2 percent to date, a figure expected to increase to 98.2 percent with the implementation of alternatives such as Tarea Educando por amor that involves university students who will teach Mathematics, Physics and Chemestry, the most affected.
This figure was achieved after to the reinstatement of teachers and a decrease in the exodus, encoureged by the salary increase, which represents a positive step.
Velazquez Cobiella also checked compliance with the technological equipment repair plan, summer activities and teacher service strategies and highlighted the territory as one of the most advanced in the computerization of educational centers.
