Panama hosts from January 22 to 27 the World Youth Day, a date considered one of the most important events of the Catholic Church that meets every three years the Pope with young people from all over the world.

It is the first time that this appointment takes place in Central America, a region populated mostly by Catholics and that received the visit of the Holy Father John Paul II in 1983 and 1996.

In a recent communique, Bishop Emilio Aranguren, president of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Cuba (COCC), said that Pope Francis chose Panama as its headquarters, because this territory fulfills the mission of "being a bridge and point of union of the nations. "

The Cuban delegation is made up of about 500 young people, 11 of them from Holguín. Msgr. Álvaro Beyra, of the Youth Episcopal Pastoral Commission of Cuba, explained that the visit to Panama will have a "multiplier effect" and a "direct impact in the evangelizing work "of the Cuban pastoral, according to the web portal of the Catholic Church in the province.

The delegation is also composed of Priests Ismael Xurur, Agustino Recolego of Guatemala, missionary in Antilla and parish priest in Tacajó and the Argentine Roberto López, who is in Velasco, Holguín.

Pope Francis, who will lead the activities of the World Youth Day in the next few days, was received by hundreds of people at the Tocumen International Airport of Panama.

This festivity is of great importance for this religious community, since it is expected that in his speeches, the Bishop of Rome will address transcendental issues for Latin American youth who suffer from forced migrations, violence or drug trafficking. / Radio Angulo
