The Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment in the province of Holguín is promoting projects to install solar systems, as part of the country’s energy matrix transformation program.

According to Geovanny Zaldívar Martínez, deputy delegate of the sector, a territorial plan dedicated to this issue is being developed, involving sectors such as agriculture and water resources.

He added that the collaboration with international organizations such as the World Food Program and Ecovalor, has enabled the implementation of technological packages and functional sites with renewable energy.

Photovoltaic systems are being implemented on agroecological farms and irrigation infrastructures to improve water resource efficiency, he noted.

In addition, training courses are offered to ensure proper equipment management by local communities and decision-makers.

The program aims to foster innovation and expand the use of clean energy in hard-to-reach areas, helping reduce dependence on fossil fuels, which currently account for 95% of Cuba’s energy matrix.

By 2030, Cuba plans to increase electricity generation and sustainable energy use through solar, wind, and biogas sources, benefiting sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, transportation, and other services. (Source: ACN)
