The Engineering and Design Services Company Vértice of Holguín collaborates in the execution of the National Housing Program by building homes for people in situations of economic vulnerability and victims of natural disasters.
As part of its corporate purpose, the materialization of projects aimed at achieving the well-being of the population, Vértice prioritizes the execution of works belonging to the Education, Public Health and Housing sectors, explained to ACN Ivett Planas Trujillo, head of Design of the entity.
The latter associated to the support of the Cuban government to people affected by meteorological events, to which they contribute by offering a comprehensive range of benefits that range from the preparation to the completion of the facilities, he reported.
They are currently working on the intervention and transformation of buildings belonging to the José de la Luz y Caballero pedagogical education headquarters, of the University of Holguín, with the aim of taking advantage of underused structures in good condition, benefiting those who need them with homes and reducing the high costs of materials, he noted.
Planas Trujillo pointed out that “Zero steel, zero cement”, the name of the initiative, encourages the use of elements such as lime, sand and wood over the former, which are more scarce and expensive, and also encourages the use of thirds, vaults, lattices. and bricks typical of colonial architecture.
At the moment it is in the experimentation stage with the approval of a first house, a task that requires all the effort on the part of engineers and architects who have never faced a work of a similar style, so this test will serve to make structural calculations feasible and ideal plans, he pointed out.
Founded in 2004, the Vértice Company has a wide catalog of successful works aimed at human well-being throughout the northeastern territory, including the construction of the Villa Nueva III neighborhood, the Gustavo Aldereguía Lima General Hospital in the Gibara municipality and the Aguada La Piedra Educational Center.
