The territorial division of the Cuban Telecommunications Company (Etecsa) in Holguín carries out a strategy for the development of equipment, with the aim to facilitate access to Internet in the areas of the Turquino Plan of the province.

In this sense, the company has been working to improve the data access service through 3G technology to several mountain communities in the municipalities of Sagua de Tánamo and Mayarí, which only had voice service through 2G technology.

Iliana Fernández Pérez, institutional communicator of Etecsa, said that the radio bases located in the areas of Alcarraza, Naranjo Agrio and Calabaza de Sagua were subject to 3G installation.

She added that the areas of Arroyo Seco and the Pinares Motel, in the municipality of Mayarí, were also benefited with this service, since the objective is to assure Internet access in the mountains of Holguín to make possible the comprehensive development of the region.

With the creation of the Turquino Plan, in June 1987, a series of economic and social services and infrastructures were incorporated in mountainous areas to make daily life more pleasant for their inhabitants.

In the province, this program covers five municipalities, located in the Nipe-Sagua-Baracoa massif, which represents 23.4 percent of the entire Holguín geography.
