Holguín celebrates 50th anniversary of the Court and Prosecutor's Office

With the recognition of fair and ethical work, workers from the Prosecutor's Office in Holguín celebrated the 50th anniversary of the constitution of the People’s Courts and the Attorney General's Office of the Republic in a political-cultural event held this Tuesday at the Eddy Suñol Theater in this eastern province.


Yeysis González Escalona, vice president of the People’s Provincial Court here, said that the celebration promotes effectiveness and transparency in the administration of justice in accordance with the Cuban social system.

She expressed that these bodies’ commitment is to the people, through a constitutional mandate respected by judges, secretaries and all staff on their behalf.

The ceremony was presided over by Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and first secretary in the province and Manuel Francisco Hernández Aguilera, governor of Holguín, among authorities.

The process of organizing the judicial system in the largest of the Antilles occurred in 1973, when the Attorney General's Office of the Republic of Cuba integrated an independent body of the nation's courts, granting it the power to observe the law, both in the citizenship as in state entities.

It was created in December 23, in honor of the birth of Ignacio Agramonte y Loynaz from Camagüey, a prominent jurisprudence and Major General of the Cuban Liberation Army.
