Two members of the Holguín baseball team " Los Cachorros " tested positive for COVID-19, which is why it was necessary to stop the training sessions being carried out at the  Calixto García Íñiguez stadium, less than two weeks to start the 61st National Baseball Series.

Rafael Brown Southerland, provincial director of Sports in Holguín, said that initially an athlete and a coach were diagnosed with the virus, but five other members gave positive to the rapid test and must wait for the confirmatory results of the PCR tests.

The athletes and members of the coaching staff who are not from the provincial capital are isolated in the so-called Architectural Jewel of Holguin baseball, while those from the municipality of Holguín are under surveillance in their homes.

On Saturday the other members of the team were tested for PCR to detect other infected, so the training sessions are stopped until further notice, which is a red light that sets off the alarms against our main baseball competition.

Leonardo París Jhonson, provincial baseball commissioner in Holguín, asserted that so far all the members of the squad are well and only some showed mild symptoms of the disease.

The Holguín baseball team is the second squad to be affected by the pandemic, as recently Los Leñadores de Las Tunas stopped their training for the same reason. The team led by the experienced Héctor "Tico" Hernández was the first team to be officially formed for the upcoming baseball campaign, with excellent preparation, according to the 41 series champion strategist.
