The University of Holguín expands the distance postgraduate studies to facilitate the growth of scientific potential in Cuba and other countries interested in drawing on the training process from the institution.
Jorge Luis Torres, vice-rector for research and postgraduate studies of the University, told the Cuban News Agency that based on the experience in the adoption of academic alternatives to promote professional improvement in the midst of the epidemiological context derived from COVID -19, it was decided to extend the teaching of master's degree courses and postgraduate specialties through digital platforms.
He noted that the application of this variant foresees the participation of a greater number of students from different regions of the world, since they no longer require the transfer to this eastern province to receive classes in person.
Torres explained that the study center works in around eight programs related to different research fields based on the training priorities of universities and companies, where engineering subjects are distinguished to promote sustainable development in a specific field.
The Holguín university headquarters simultaneously promotes four doctoral programs in person, three of them with the category of excellence, such as Organizational Management, Pedagogy, and Physical Culture and Sports.
According to Torres, these projects will also be progressively inserted into this content virtualization process, in which some of the courses are already on the Center’s website for distance study, and in the near future it will facilitate their learning by both Cuban and foreign researchers.
The University of Holguín carried out 549 postgraduate actions from February to July 2021, with an enrollment of 11,892 people, including 202 foreigners and 444 workers from the non-state sector in the province.
