The University of Holguín graduated twelve foreign students from the sister People's Republic of Angola and the Saharawi Arab, following the implementation of different forms of learning.
Nzuzi Kuetutinina Filipe, an Angolan computer engineering graduate, told the press that studying in Cuba has been one of the best experiences of his life, regardless of cultural and language barriers, because he could rely on qualified professors who gave him and his classmates personalized attention and the chance to participate in various additional university activities.
“The last months were difficult because of the way COVID-19 spread throughout the province, which demanded from us a greater effort in the learning process and a better use of time to meet the schedule,” he said.
Jenny Ruiz de la Peña, director of International Relations of the UHo, said it has been a great challenge to reach the goal, since the new conditions in which the school year has developed required adjustments and more efforts on the part of teachers to guarantee online learning, with interactive platforms and social networks and all the necessary documentation and attention to the students, who had to redouble efforts in their self-training.
“Both students and teachers have maintained an active communication to achieve the objectives. Fortunately, it has been possible to successfully complete the school year and carry out their diploma work with the proper accompaniment of the professors and directives involved, ”she pointed out.
“This is the realization of dreams and aspirations, achieved thanks to the solidarity of Cuba with other peoples of the world. It praises the University of Holguín and has been a privilege to be part of their professional training. We predict success in their professional performance”, added Ruiz de la Peña.
She pointed out that the scope of UHo’s study system reaches other nations through the process of internationalization, which shows equity and social justice.
She also commented that foreign students can access this system in Cuba through through various programs for foreign scholarship holders, governmental agreements, or self-financed learning opportunities.
