The province of Holguín closed the first quarter of 2021 with a complex epidemiological situation due to COVID-19 pandemic, by maintaining a sustained autochthonous transmission and dispersion of the SARS-CoV-2 viral load in most municipalities.

During the period, the active outbreaks have exceeded 95 on average, with days exceeding 100, which confirms the existing infestation in the territory, where the general rate of confirmed cases is higher than 20 per 10,000 inhabitants.

The behavior of the pandemic in these months has been characterized by the number of autochthonous people, the contacts of confirmed cases, the patients without a specified source of infection and extra-domiciliary infections. Children and people over 60 years of age are the ones with the highest incidence.

On March 31 Holguín reported 10 positive cases, nine of them autochthonous and a traveler from the United States. Today, there are 60 patients positive to COVID-19 admitted to the El Bosque motel, Villa El Cocal and the Fermín Valdés Domínguez military hospital.

There are also 20 suspected cases assisted in health units, about a thousand isolated in centers authorized for this purpose, as they are contacts of positive cases, while the isolation centers for foreign and national travelers welcome 15 and 35 citizens, respectively, who must pass quarantine before going to their communities, as provided in the protocol of the Ministry of Public Health since last February.
