The University of Holguín (UHo) promotes the development of distance classes based on the existing computer infrastructure to reinforce the teaching-learning process in the midst of the current epidemiological situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Orestes Coloma Rodríguez, general director of computerization of the center, said to the ACN that to develop this modality the University has the basic bases for working with virtual platforms.
The educational institution has the eduvirtual.uho.edu.cu portal that enables the entry of educational resources, where teachers help each other to immediately send the study guides that students need to carry out the academic process at a distance.
Coloma explained that virtualizing the content does not consist in bringing the subject programs to digital platforms, but in transforming the teaching-learning process of the teaching subjects, for which the educational methods have to be adapted to the type of technology used for this purpose.
The workers at the educational institution carry out sustained work to guarantee the quality of this process, where they have currently managed to promote 6,503 courses and incorporate around 8,770 users to the educational platform, he said.
Following the approval of free access to the eduvirtual.uho.edu.cu website through ETECSA's public WiFi points, the Nauta Hogar service and mobile data, the number of daily entries to the teaching platform has increased.
In turn, the university has sought alternatives to send the exercise guides to students with technological limitations, through the Municipal University Centers and the agreement soon to be materialized with the Young Computer and Electronics Club, in order to facilitate the teaching information and the availability of a digital study method.
Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in February, the University of Holguín adopted the modality of distance classes, applied to students from second to last year of all degrees, where it is expected to progressively incorporate new entrants.
