As part of the Rural Cooperative Development Project (PRODECOR) for the eastern region of the Caribbean country, the new sowing machines, harvesters and modern technology fertilizers will benefit some 2, 168 hectares of various crops.
In the Basic Unit of Cooperative Production (UBPC) Diosdado Samón, also prevails a sense of satisfaction among its workers, who increase efforts to contribute the Cuban economy and prevent the purchase of products that lands can produce.
The mechanized planting allowed here, just four days into the spring campaign, to have 40 percent of the land dedicated to grains planted.
José Pedro Batista, agricultural worker, explained that before the arrival of the machines, it was necessary to bring the family and neighbors to the countryside due to the lack of work force. "Not long ago," he says, "fertilization involved 20 or 30 men, with bags on their shoulders and fertilizer was scattered with their hands. With the new machine, only 3 or 4 workers are required, as it does almost everything.
