Ramiro Valdés checks nickel program in Moa, Holguín

The Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés Menéndez, deputy prime minister and member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), checked on Thursday the progress of the comprehensive program to stabilize compliance with the production of nickel and cobalt in the municipality of Moa.
In meeting held at the Ernesto Che Guevara Industry in this mining territory, Valdés Menéndez was informed on the current state of the production plans of that industry and the Pedro Sotto Alba, as well as the income made to date.
He noted the importance of the university-industry link in order to enrich the production process and find solutions to the different problems that slow progress.
In this sense, he called for identifying the main difficulties, involving students in research and the search for viable alternatives to provide quick and efficient responses to achieve metallurgical performance.
Emilio Oriol Vargas, director of the unit for technical services, explained that they have carried out the survey of some 53 studies developed at the Ernesto Che Guevara plant, of which 29 have a direct application and others are undergoing validation process.
Valdés Menéndez knew about the progress of the investment processes and received detailed information on the causes and possible solutions of delays in the different processes.
The meeting addressed aspects included in the development plan aimed at raising the quality of life of the people of Moa and making the most of local potential.
Topics such as the current state of the roads, especially the Moa-Baracoa highway, the rehabilitation of hydraulic networks, food production and the progress of the housing program focused on the meeting.
The Commander of the Revolution was accompanied by Nicolas Liván Arronte Cruz, Minister of Energy and Mines of Cuba, Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez, First Secretary of the Party in the province and Julio Cesar Estupiñán Rodríguez, Governor of Holguín.
