Holguín: Infant mortality rate of 3.23 until July

The province of Holguín closed the first seven months of 2020 with an infant mortality rate (IMR) of 3.23 for every thousand children born alive and five municipalities with no deaths in children under one year old, important results amidst the tense epidemiological situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
Until July 31, the municipalities of Gibara, Sagua, Antilla, "Calixto García" and "Frank País" reported zero infant mortality "explained Dr. Mirna Aguilera Bauzá, head of the Mother and Child Care Program in the province, who noted that the municipality of Calixto García reports no deaths in that age group since last year.

According to the specialist, 4,957 infants were born in the stage, about 501 less compared to the similar period in 2019, when the MIF was 3.85, to close that year with that important indicator below five.

The Lenin hospital reports the largest number of births per year in Cuba. In the first seven months 3,677 children were born here, 550 less compared to the same stage in 2019, said Dr. Erwin Regis Angulo, deputy director for Mother and Child Care parogram at the health institution.
