A group of 79 health professionals from the province of Holguín are among the Cuban collaborators who will provide medical services in countries affected by COVID-19, as part of the nation's solidarity actions to confront the new coronavirus.

Dr. Rebeca Robles, official of the Provincial Directorate of Public Health in the eastern territory, pointed out that the medical team is made up of comprehensive general doctors, nurses, epidemiologists, pediatricians and intensivists.

She noted that 34 of these doctors have already left for territories affected by the disease and another 45 are undergoing a training process to provide services in the face of the health emergency caused by the new coronavirus, classified as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The doctors will collaborate in Venezuela, Jamaica, Suriname, Nicaragua and Italy, as part of the Cuban Medical Brigade Henry Reeve, which was established in 2005 and has wide recognition for its experience in dealing with other epidemics, such as Ebola and the Cholera, among other humanitarian missions.

This contingent created by the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, has received, among other awards, the Public Health Prize awarded by the WHO in 2017.
