The improvement of basic care and the assignment of specialists in the most needed areas of Brazil was achieved by the More Doctors Program in less than three years since its implementation, published Infomed on Wednesday.

Fulfilling the demand for doctors in 2013 and the following years, as well as expanding the family health team and also the population's access to basic care actions are other successes of this program, according to an article in the Brazilian magazine Interface, which evaluates the results achieved up to 2015 emphasizing the allocation of doctors.

The authors of the study identified important advances, regarding the equitable character, the impact on health indicators and the positive evaluation that patients, doctors and managers make of the program.

However, they point out some pending challenges, such as the fact that Brazilian doctors still choose and work in a much smaller number of municipalities compared to the local ones where graduates abroad and, especially foreigners, intend to practice.

They also emphasize that to have the necessary quantity of doctors with the adequate training to meet the needs of the Brazilian population, it is crucial to reach the aims of the training axis, with the improvement of the quality in such a way that it responds to the reasons required the training of this program.

More Doctors was created in 2013 to face challenges conditioning the expansion and development of basic health care, mainly the insufficiency and poor distribution of doctors, as well as the inadequate training profile to the population' needs. / PL
